Andreas (b. Andreas Smetana, Innsbruck, 1968) live with photography as an adventure. “It wasn’t a calling, though. Thrown into an apprenticeship after leaving school, I first fell in love with the inspiring people in the industry and my love for the work itself soon followed.”
After forming his own studio at just 23 Andreas continued to work for a further 3 years before he decided it was time to move on to Sydney, Australia. He did the rounds of the agencies and, then an English novice, learned fast that “see you later” didn’t mean “we’ll call you”. But once he got his first gig, he never looked back. Andreas moved quickly becoming one of Australia’s most popular emerging talents. His work began to gain momentum, not just locally but also internationally, now working with some of the biggest names and best creative’s in the industry.
Andreas finds inspiration in the whole process that culminates in his striking images. He loves connecting with people creatively to hammer out a brief, visually pushing the boundaries to find an edge and individual flavour. It is this combination that has made Andreas “one of the most published photographers” in Archive Magazine within the last 10 years.
To name a few, Andreas has worked with Adidas, AIA International Insurance, Alliance, America Express, AT&T USA, Audi, Changi Airport, Connex, Galliano, Hewlett-Packard, Heineken, Honda, Hyundai, IBM, Jim Beam, KIA, Kraft, Levi’s, Mastercard, Mercedes Benz, MTV Australia, Nintendo, Nokia, Olay, Panasonic, Qantas, Renault, Samsung, Singapore Airlines, Singapore Navy, Sony, Subaru, Toyota, Volvo, X-Box, XXXX Beer, and many more.
