Cecil (b. Cecillia Hidayat, Jakarta, 1983) studied Visual Communication just because she thought that’s the only way she could draw more and more. “I draw when I’m happy, when I’m sad, when I’m angry, when I’m bored. I’m an introvert person, I find difficulties saying my thoughts out loud, so I have to draw. I never think much when I’m drawing, to tell you the truth… I basically just follow my instincts.” – quoted from her line in our interview couple days back.
Cecil started her professional path as an Art Director in advertising agency before she decided that she doesn’t want to limit her time drawing by working in a very demanding agency hour, and she turns out enjoying illustrating even more now – by working as a person, not as employee.
“I’m mostly inspired by music, but I think inspirations come from anywhere, anytime. You just know it when it comes. It could be just a plain day and I’m taking a walk to the bus station and suddenly a cat passes me by… and it got me. The urge of drawing something related to what I see, it got me.”
To name a few, Cecil has been working with McDonald’s, Perfetti Van Melle, Zwitsal, Biore, XL, Capricorn Publishing, Arena Gourmet and Ideantity Singapore.
