Noran (b. Andrini Noran Bakrie, Jakarta, 1982) admits that she’s always in the borderline. Quoting her line when we interviewed her a couple days back, “I’m too soft for contemporary art yet also too rough for commercial, I’m probably in between, but let me tell you a secret: I like to stand in the borderline. Things are more fun there.” and then she winked at us.

“I started to enjoy photography when I was working in Arc Worldwide, I didn’t have enough money to buy camera, so I always borrow this office property camera and stealing shots when other colleagues went home. It was kinda silly, I waited until the office is empty so I can sneak to camera cabinet and use one from it. Most likely my photos that time were taken at night. I asked my girlfriends to hang and model for me in office building rooftops, again, we sneaked there. Hahaha. I miss those days though. Now everything I do is legit.”

Noran started her creative career as a Designer in advertising agency. She then continued on becoming a Creative Director in digital advertising agency, before she finally decide to build her own agency and live mobile, so she could have more time focusing in her real deal passion: Photography and traveling. “There are two types of people,” she said. “People who exist, and people who live. I wanna live, through photography – and I wanna live by enjoying the world I’m living in right now, that is why I am fond in traveling.”

Noran uses photography to record the life she sees. “It’s not about how people will fancy my records or not, but more about saying, hey… This happened. I guess this is what the world is, how it works, how it affects us, and how we gonna address ourselves in it. Photography makes me appreciate the universe, by the way it always reminds me that there are something so great out there than me and my life. It helps me to connect.”

By managing so many roles ongoing right now (photographer, enterpreneur, creative director, designer, writer), we asked her about what she really expects from these fields, and she answered,“I’m not much of a persistent person, I just like to do what I like for now, because for me when you are honest to who you really are and what you really want to do in life, you will  naturally do it and achieve beyond than anyone else ever could.” — Her profile can be read gracefully here.

To name a few, Noran has worked with Indonesian Ministry of Culture Tourism, National Geographic, iRefrigerator (USA), Ocean Blue Hotel Bali, British Council Indonesia, Abbott Gain Advance, Luxur-Galactica (Band), Nikicio, Nifty, PDB Jewelry, Malika
— and also has been featured in several international art, photography & design magazines, such as Inkult (Mexico), CarneMag® (Argentina), Trust Me (Italy), Picame (Italy), Fan The Fire (UK), Print (New Zealand), Empty (Australia), plus many more.

Recently her work has been published in “A Book of Beds” that just launched this May 2011 in Foam Museum, Amsterdam Art Book Fair, Netherlands.
